Furukawa and Xena Networks first to demonstrate 100 GbE with OM4  Multimode Fibers in Latin America

This first-ever demonstration featured Furukawa’s TeraLAN HDMPO solution being used with OM4 Multimode Fibers and MPO connectors for 100 Gigabit Ethernet Data transmission over long distances in data centers and enterprise networks. Combined, the technologies allow the cost-effective expansion of next-generation high-speed networking.

Curitiba, September, 2011 – Furukawa, the leading Brazilian cabling and optical networks solutions manufacturer, recently conducted 100Gbps Ethernet data transmission performance and inter-operability tests using Xena Networks test equipment.

Conducted in the Furukawa’s laboratories in Curitiba, Brazil, the tests involved Furukawa’s TeraLAN HDMPO solution, which features their IM4 multimode optical fibers and MPO connectors, and Xena Networks’ 100Gbps test module.

“IEEE 802.3ba was approved last year but there is lack of knowledge about how to design, install and test a real 100Gbps communication system. Partnering with Xena Networks let us test and prove our OM4 MMF channel links by simulating a real network, and it was the first demonstration of this 100G application involving MMF fibers in Latin America”, says Fabio Kumasawa, manager of System Engineering of Furukawa.

The 100 Gigabit Ethernet tests involved using a XenaCompact chassis equipped with a 100G Ethernet test module to demonstrate the performance of cabling solutions over long distances.

“Like Furukawa, Xena Networks is commited to driving down the cost of deploying 100 Gigabit Ethernet. Using our test equipment, Furukawa proved they can help data centers and enterprises drop the price tag of upgrading their existing cabling infrastructure to next-generation 100Gbps network architecture,” said Christopher Lind Arlaud, VP Marketing at Xena Networks.

Furukawa’s TeraLan HDMPO optical cabling solution for Data Centers and Companies is part of the Furukawa Cabling System, a set of solutions already available for networks from 100Mbps to 100GbE.
